Met Monday & Mosaic Monday 7-6-09

Its Monday again and time for another Met Monday Hosted by
combined with
Mosaic Monday hosted by
This week I combined them to make one big fun post...
Its kind of a sad mosaic... I painted this Mural a couple of years ago in my office to make a play room for my grandkids... Then when the grandkids kept multiplying I made my work-out room into the playroom and had my office back all to myself... Well the "Where the wild things Are" Mural wasn't me... the rest of my office is a soft blue... so I painted over it a couple of weeks ago with the help of my grand daughter... Now you might be wondering why the bed? Well as some of you know my son and his family are living with me temporality and my niece is here to visit for a month! Yes count em, thats 7 people plus a newborn baby due in August and two dogs living with us once empty nesters! Don't get me wrong! I love every minute of it!
But I painted this mural with my nephew over the Christmas break and we had so much fun painting it... It took two coats of KILZ and one coat of Ralph Lauren "Lisbon Blue"
It was scary and a little sad those first strokes... then I was glad I did it.
Gotta change with the times...

Before, during and after...

Well as some of you know my son and his family are living with me temporality and my niece is here to visit for a month! Yes count em, thats 7 people plus a newborn baby due in August and two dogs living with us once empty nesters! Don't get me wrong! I love every minute of it! So I found this little bed set... the two lockers and top with a light and also a bed and headboard came with it... (Which I will show in another post) on Craig's list for $80.00! I bought the bedding at Target... The whole bed set is solid wood... Its just kind of an icky creamy yellow color right now... But Brianna, my niece, got here today and she was just thrilled with how my daughter and I set up her little area... Yes that's right... on the other half of my office where the kids play area was! When my niece goes home, and the weather cools off I am going to re-finish this bed set, Beach Cottage-ish, inspired by my blogger friends, and sell it on Craig's list again and try and double my money!

  9. At first I thought she was standing there with her arms crossed in defiance as in "Oh no you don't touch this mural". Then when I enlarged it I saw the paint roller and it became "Stand back, this mural is outta here".

  17. Oh, I guess painting over your mural was a tad bitter sweet, you had done a great job! But like you said, we move on! Your house must be bulging with all the folks. How nice of you to have them stay with you for now. I'm a Craigslist kinda gal! I love Craigslist and I'm sure you'll get your money back from the bed set up! Glad little sweetie likes her space for now!
    Be a sweeie,

  23. Hello !
Getting back to you on my scoop on
    paint...
I do use the generic brand at walmart alot...use glossy black.
For the white - I use ivory -but,
it doesn't come in generic - so I buy the Krylon. I sand down stuff down typically. Right now I am doing a super old dresser with loads of paint - I am stripping this down and it is taking forever ! Have fun and thanks for asking !
    Hugs ~ Kammy

  29. The mural was wonderful, but, as my mother used to say, "We do what we have to do."

It's great that you have your photos, your memories of the children enjoying the mural, and -- best of all -- you have your family!

Thanks for the lovely comment you left for me earlier today. Hope you'll stop by often.
