Outdoor Wednesday!

Another Outdoor Wednesday, and its fun to see what posts pop up in winter...
Click here to visit them all.
While in San Diego last month we witnessed some very interesting
Navy ships and planes maneuvering around.
Also some very sexy sailors early morning on the beach training to be Navy Seals.
(I didn't get photographs of those boys... Sorry Girls)

The hotel we stayed at; The Hotel Del Coronado is located on the same spit of land as the North Island Navel Base.

Of course there are more US Navy stations in and around San Diego too.

Naval Station San Diego, North Island Naval Air Station, Naval Submarine Base Point Loma and Naval Amphibious base Coronado.

Hubby was a submarine sailor and was stationed and trained at the Naval Sub base in Point Loma.

And don't forget In 1969, the Navy established the
“Top Gun” school at the Miramar Naval Air Station in San Diego: a four-week course to provide pilots instruction that simulated realistic combat conditions. They filmed the Movie "Top Gun" with Tom Cruise and Kelly Mcgillis there.

And we visited the "Bar" where they filmed the scene with Goose playing the piano and singing "Great Balls of Fire". Its called The Kansas City Bar-B-Que. A couple of years ago there was a terrible fire, no one was hurt but some of the bar burned, The piano only had some smoke damage thank goodness!

In 1997, the Miramar Naval Air Base changed hands from a Naval Air Station to a Marine airbase. The Top Gun school was moved to Fallon Naval Air Station, about 60 miles from Reno, Nevada.

But the rest of the Navy is there in force!

Here are my photos...
Here is a Aircraft carrier just going out to sea.
(Click the photo to enlarge,
you won't be disappointed at the detail I got with my telephoto)

I wonder where they are going...
God Bless them... Everyone.

Here is a plane coming in for a landing... right over my head!
It was so awesome and exciting...
Notice anything odd about the photo's of this aircraft?

Flying and boating are in my blood...
My Family has been flying ever since airplanes were invented.
We have always owned a boat of one kind or another.
And I have been a sailor ever since I could walk.
But that's another Outdoor Wednesday post.

This is a fantastic photo I found of an aircraft carrier...

I hope you enjoyed my Outdoor Wednesday as much as I did.

Thanks for Visiting

Foodie Friday!

This week I am sharing my recipe and technique for making homemade Limonchello. I make a batch every year. It takes 8o days... and by spring I have fresh bottles of yummy fresh Limonchello in the freezer. I sip it... I pour it on ice cream, and cook with it. Its fresh, sunny and really delicious. I got a taste for it while visiting Capri Italy a few years ago. I cam home with several bottles of Limonchello. But while I was there I spoke to a lady and she told me most people here make their own... well if they could do it I could... Its easy and oh so worth the effort.

Here is a recipe and how to.
I do the first step. Then 40 days later do the second step.
Then let it set 40 days and its ready!

Wash & Scrub the rind 10 to 12 organic lemons:

Peel each lemon and leave NO white pith.

I zest a couple of lemons also:

Put peel and zest in a jar and add 750ml good Vodka.

Close it and swirl it and put it in a dark place for 40 days... swirling occasionally.

The recipe:

10 lemons

1 (750-ml) bottle vodka

3 1/2 cups water

2 1/2 cups sugar

Using a vegetable peeler, remove the peel from the lemons in long strips (reserve the lemons for another use). Using a small sharp knife, trim away the white pith from the lemon peels; discard the pith. Place the lemon peels in a 2-quart pitcher. Pour the vodka over the peels and cover with plastic wrap. Steep the lemon peels in the vodka for 4 days at room temperature.

Stir the water and sugar in a large saucepan over medium heat until the sugar dissolves, about 5 minutes. Cool completely. Pour the sugar syrup over the vodka mixture. Cover and let stand at room temperature overnight. Strain the limoncello through a mesh strainer. Discard the peels. Transfer the limoncello to bottles. Seal the bottles and refrigerate until cold, at least 4 hours and up to 1 month.

Honestly, her recipe rocks... but talking to the lady in Capri... they let it set 40 days with the vodka... then 40 days with the simple syrup.

Then its perfection!

Back in Las Vagas!

Hubby and I are in Vegas again. This time for the CES (Consumer Electronics Show)
Of course Hubby is here to work and I am here to play... Hey, he has to get a hotel room anyway, right? This time his company got them rooms at the Hilton Grand Vacation. Its an amazing room! Or should I say suite! Now I wish we were staying longer!

The Hotel is on the far end of the strip, down by the Wynn. It has no casino and no restaurants (except a little cafe, open till midnight). What is does have is an amazing room with a Jacuzzi tub and 2 rooms... I'm in the kitchen eating area right now having coffee while Sweet Hubby is snoring away in the bedroom! Here's some photos...

After dinner at Mandalay Bay Buffet (cause I wanted all you can eat crab legs) we headed down to Freemont Street. We were with a colleague of Hubby's, and she had not been to Freemont Street! So we had to show her how amazing it is...
How Las Vegas was able to attract visitors back to the old section of Vegas by building an arch over the street. Open at each end, and doing a light show with music every hour. Kiosks set up every block selling wares and drinks! Its where all the locals head to gamble.

Looking at the worlds largest gold nugget at The Golden Nugget Hotel.

The amazing pool renovation at The Golden Nugget.
See that tube inside the aquarium?
That is a water slide... you actually slide THROUGH the aquarium!
We might have to stay here next time we come to Vegas.

Freemont Street Experience...

Watching the light show on the arch... Every hour they do a different show... This one was Americian Pie and just about the whole street was singing cause just about everyone knows the words... "The Day the music died... So Bye Bye Miss American Pie. Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry. Those good ole boys drinking whiskey and rye singing this'll be the day that I die... "
It was so much fun!

I'll post stuff from the show if I can get photos... its an incredible show featuring all the new electronic technology coming out in the coming year!

See you tomorrow for Foodie Friday!
